A younger doctor was allegedly attacked on Tuesday by members of the family of a deceased Covid-19 affected person at a Covid care centre in Assam’s Hojai district.
The incident happened at Odali Model Hospital at round 1:30 pm. In a viral video of the incident, some individuals will be seen attacking and kicking the doctor recognized as one Dr Seuj Kumar Senapati.
According to studies, members of the family of the deceased affected person brutally thrashed the doctor following the patient’s demise.
“The relatives of the patient complained to me that the patient’s condition is serious. When I was seeing the patient, I found that he had already expired. The relatives of the patient vandalised the furniture of the hospital and attacked me,” Dr Seuj Kumar Senapati stated.
Assam Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Dr Numal Momin instructed Aajtak/India Today TV over the cellphone that it was the doctor’s first day on responsibility in the agricultural space after completion of his MBBS course.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated such barbaric assaults on frontline employees won’t be tolerated.
“Such barbaric assaults on our frontline employees will not be tolerated by our administration. @gpsinghassam @assampolice Ensure that the culprits dropped at justice,” CM Sarma said in a tweet.

Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Dr Numal Momin stated police have arrested 4 individuals up to now for his or her alleged involvement. “Brutality in opposition to a doctor put up MBBS, rural posting is very condemnable. I demand an neutral inquiry and strict action in opposition to these culprits,” stated Momin.

Assam IMA unit writes to police demanding action
The Assam State department of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has expressed deep anguish on the incident of assault on the on-duty doctor.
In a letter written to Deputy Commissioner Hojai, the Assam Medical Service Association (AMSA) alleged that the doctor was ‘brutally assaulted and tortured by kin of late Gisauddin who was a Covid affected person and admitted right this moment at round 11 am and expired at Udali CCC at round 2 pm. The miscreants then broken the hospital constructing and ransacked different necessary devices required for care’.
Urging him to take strict action in the matter, the affiliation stated, “This type of incident demoralises our serving attitude. They are not only enemies to doctors but also the entire community. We request to arrest the miscreants in 12 hours and stringent punishment be given so that such incidents do not happen in future.”
AMSA has threatened to boycott all OPDs and subsequent different companies if the ‘culprits usually are not arrested by 7 am on June 2’.
“All the hospitals should be provided with security and cameras 24×7 to avoid such incidents in future,” it stated.
IMA lends assist
The Indian Medical Association (IMA), too, condemned the attack on the junior doctor.
“Attacking the doctors even at this crucial moment of pandemic is barbaric. We request the Assam government to book these merciless culprits immediately,” the IMA stated in a press release.
Demanding that every one hospitals are declared protecting zones, the IMA sought enforcement of the stringent central hospital safety regulation.
